Our Work in South Sudan

In 2021, WEP restarted sponsorship to women in higher education. Our first woman has now graduated and is working in Public Health back in her home area.

Numbers have continued to grow with 56 women in various institutions of higher education during 2025. Nine of these will be completing their studies this year. A total of 11 refugees from Sudan are currently be supported with 9 more applying for 2026. As the war continues we anticipate additional women coming forward.

The Adult Learning Programme at KIMU, which grew out of the literacy project, has this year had 40 students sit of the Primary 8 exams. This means that they will be able to continue with studies if they choose. For most of these women their education was denied by the civil wars for the past few decades. This opportunity means that they know they are capable of wider achievements in life.
